Ok guys, since I just got this 7mm-08 I'm curious about new ammo. Been a few yrs without this cal. I'm sure someone has ideas and experience on some nice loads out there for deer. All shots will be under 300 yds. Thanks.

About anything will work if it's accurate in YOUR gun.

However, since you mentioned favorite, mine is the 120 TTSX from Barnes at a little over 3,000 fps (using RL-15).

Best bullet so far in my rifle..Barnes TSX in 140g. Made by Federal...

I'm sorry fellas. I don't load my own. I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!. I'm not worthy!

At about 110-120 yards. Bang/Flop

the funny thing dont make a dang which one of these bullets you pick

they will all kill em dead as heck

120 nbt :d

I've got a box of .264 120 NBT. I think I'll load up some 260 REM loads to about the same velocity you're getting in the 7mm-08. Should be practically identical.

should be

i know the 284 120 nbt has a thicker jacket and it holds up on impact vel in the 3500 fps range

dont know about the 6.5's but at 2700 mul vel it wont matter

Since I shoot so many of my deer at close ranges, I like loading the NBT at slightly lower velocity. I've had awesome results with 130 gr NBT from my 270 at ranges beyond 75 yards (3060 fps MV), but on a couple of close range shots I had some issues. One was a 2.5 yr old 8 point at 40 yards; I hit him four ribs in front of the diaphram, and the hydroshock split the diaphram and the stomach. Entrance and exit in the ribcage but green gut slime all over the inside. No problems tracking, though, and excellent accuracy.

Actually, as someone above posted, at the velocities I'm shooting in a 260 REM (or a 7mm-08) any decent weight Cup & Core bullet should do fine. I've had no complaints from basic Hornady Interlock in 140 gr. I just don't like how the exposed lead tips get deformed or slightly flattened from handling. (Guess it's the Monk in me.)

Good post jakeway. I have a kimber 84 classic and love it. And like you, I would recommend any cup and core bullet in the 140 - 150 gr. At the modest velocity, bullet failure would be unlikely. Great round.

7x57mm is a sweet caliber, If I could only have one hunting rifle that would be my choice.

I handloaded core locts and have shot several mature bucks with it. Killed them all, but all ran and none of the bullets penetrated. I know shoot 150 gr interlocts with better results.
