Last year my 13 year old starting going with us on our quota hunts. He's obviously hunting with me. And we could only hunt from the ground which is fine. I do that a lot anyway. It cost us a buck last year. Cause we couldn't see it being on the ground till it was to late. But I would also like the both of us to be in a tree together. I know a 2 man ladder stand would work. But on the quota hunts our normal spot is a long way back. Is there a 2 man stand that doesn't weigh a ton. And what other ways can I go about getting us in the same tree.

I just seen a good deal on a hang on with sticks for$125 in the classifieds, you'll just need 1 more hang on. I hunted with my daughter for 10 years and used a 2 man for most of it and still have one I use, but it better be concealed. I've had seasons where I told her anytime, wherever you want that stand we put it and I think it's just tough.

The best I had with her was in a ground blind a big six tailing a doe, she couldn't get on it a few minutes later a big 10 come out and crossed the field but cut the corner and she couldn't get on him. That was with a rifle. Same spot at 830am a nice hog come out at 20 yards she had her crossbow and by the time she got in the window in walked off. We had a few other situations never could get her one. The past couple years she's not interested.

I've been using a hang on with sticks the past 2 seasons and love it, I wear a harness from the ground up it's easy and lightweight. My feet are about 20' of the ground.

If you're gun hunting I would go the saddle route. One set of sticks and both of you can hang next to each other. It'll be the lightest setup and walking distance won't matter much. Might can get away with it bow hunting too.

It'll be muzzloader and gun. The 2 hang on's is a good idea I think. Maybe 2 saddles. Those are good ideas anyway. Ladder stands are just too heavy to carry way out on a quota hunt. At least all the ones I've found.

I don't have a saddle yet but a combo of hang on and saddle would be cool. Either way I think your looking in the right direction with a hang on/climber/saddle combo

I'm steeped in taking kids hunting in tree stands. When I started taking my daughter, she was so young and light that I'd attach a rope to her safety harness and as she'd be climbing up I'd be pulling slack out. I happened to look down one time and she was just touching the steps as she went by like an elevator. Even at that very young age she wore her harness and carried a lone wolf stand on her back to the tree. I always set up in double trees where we were basically face to face. The bases would almost be touching. I'd pull her up and snap the harness to the tree strap before she got into the treestand, I'd relax then. I've set up 3 lock ons before when I took both kids or their friends.
I took a friend's son last year on his first bow hunt. He learned to climb a treestand that first time up the tree. He was having a hard time moving the summit cable up the tree like we all do at first. I was impatient and would grab the cable and push it up myself. That is until I had three fingers behind it and he decided to put his weight back on the stand and squeeze the heck out of my fingers until he could get the top bit and moving the bottom again. This year I'm gonna have a small loop of p cord that I can grab to assist and keep it quiet. Good luck with the kid!!

2 climbers on the same tree could work.
This definitely will work. For a 13 year old, a saddle would be my second option and all I do is saddle hunt now. I've got a 12 year old who could do both but I would spend the time practicing each of them to see which would be safest for my child to use.
