For the past 25 years I've planted, dug up and separated bunches, and replanted hostas. I've given enough away to plant acres. They have to be the most low maintenance, easiest to grow plant I know of and they come back stronger and thicker every year...and the deer love them. I moved and planted another patch about 20 X 15 this year along my driveway and just watched another few deer eating them. They cut them to the ground and they grow right back. I never really thought about it before but they'd make a great summer food plot.

I had to look up Hostas to even know what you are talking about. I have seen those growing in people's yards but had no idea that deer liked them. How would you plant a field in that? I'm guess you are thinking of no more than 1/4 acre at most? Anything that deer prefer to eat is fair game for food plots to me.

When we lived in Virginia, everyone had hostas. The DC ex-urban and suburban deer herd hammered them mercilessly. They loved them.

Now this guy is thinking outside of the box I love it. My mom has tons of these. She digs them up and sells them at yard sales and always sells out. I'm gonna try this in my little plot in the woods.

That's a great idea! And they do fairly well in shade. What other plant could you get that much foliage in the shade? I'm going to steal your idea and try it! Put a pic of a big buck on the label and you could get rich!
