I was looking at some boxes of shells on top of my gun safe this evening and noticed a small box of 2 1/2 inch .410 slugs I have no idea where they came from but got to thinking... in the 30 plus years of deer hunting I remember back in the early 80's hearing of a girl who killed a deer on the juv. hunt with a .410 slug.. have any of you ever done it??

I have one with a red dot set up I might try out this year. I set it up for my son last year and busted a bunch of milk jugs with it was about it.

One of the first deer I killed was with a 410 slug.

There used to be a guy on here that hunted ft. Campbell a lot and he had a 200 yard 410.

I know several guys up around our lease in Ohio that use 410s

my dads 80 years old uncle use's one. never saw it myself but him and his sons claim he kills deer to a hundred yards with it.alot of people claim they dont have enough energy for deer though.i do know my brother shot slugs from his 410 double barrel into a 2x8 and it didnt make it all the way through from 25 yards

My first 3 or four deer were killed with .410 slugs. The shots were all less than 50 yards or so but they worked fine. This was in the late 80s with a smooth bore.

Not sure if they even make a rifled barrel in .410 or not.

My son killed 2 on juvy weekend with a .410 this year. One dropped in its tracks. ( spine shot ) The other ran about 30 yards. ( heart shot ) He was using 3inch Remington slugs.

did they pass all the way through ?

Yes, both shots passed through but they were also close range shots. Spine shot was 25 yards, heart shot was 10 yards.
