I have shot a TC encore ML for a few years with good accuracy. I recently purchased a barrel in .35 Whelen to use as a Mississippi Muzzleloader. The accuracy is disappointing, around a 3 in. group at 100 yds. Have any of you had similar experiences with extra barrels. Have you tried oversized hinge pins such as those sold by BellM TC's? glass bedding the forearm?

I have a .223 and .270 barrel for my encore. With factory loads the best I can hope for is 2" at 100yds.
I now reload for both barrels and with reloads I can get sub moa at 100yds.

My 243 Encore barrel will shoot a 5 shot, one hole group at 100 yds. No mods to the rifle what so ever. The 50 cal ML barrel can shoot a 3 shot clover leaf at 100 yds.

What type of scope, bases and rings are you using?

M70M, do you reload for the 243. If so does your barrel like loads that are loaded right on the lands or off the lands a little. Both of my barrels shoot best loaded right on the lands and I was wondering if this was common.

I do reload for the 243, but I have hundreds of rounds of factory ammo that fill the bill. The 95 grain Fusion is just unreal with accuracy (one hole groups) and drops deer as if they were hit with Thor's hammer. I haven't shot a reloads yet out of the 243. I do have some reloads that need to be checked out though.

I do know, however, that 90 grain Scirroco's keyhole out of my barrel.

My 15" 7mm-08 pistol barrel will shoot 3" groups at 200 yards. I'm surprised you're having so much trouble with the rifle barrels. I'd definetly try another load.

The 243 barrel I used to have for my Encore shot 1 inch or less with most factory loads I tried. Most Encores I have seen shoot pretty good.

What powder/bullet combo are you shooting out of your Encore to get such accuracy??

110 grains of 777 and a 245 grain Barnes Spitfire.

My 50 cal shoots just like a center fire
On the other hand my 7mag was awful
I sent it back to TC and they shipped me a new 30-06
and it shoots ok.
My brother shoots a .243 and he's got it for sale
they just dont shoot that good

If you're using the factory 35 Whelen rounds that may be contributing to the problem. I've never been able to get really good accuracy out of any of the Remington factory Whelen loads.

I am using a leupold vxII 3x9x40 with a steel one piece base with double dovetail rings. I was trying to avoid it but I may have to start reloading for it. I'm glass bedding the fore arm right now and I have an oversize hinge pin ordered (one that does not require reaming) If that doesn't work, I may send it to Bellm T/C's and have him work on it. I appreciate the input. I always thought the Encore's were tack drivers. However, as I read, it seams some are, but there are just as many or more average or less than average.

hey square, does your encore rattle/loose? if it does you need new pins.

i talked to a dude lastnight that bought a used 270 encore. he said it shot 3" groups at 100. he had noticed after he bought it that it had a rattle like it was loose. he bought the #2 pin. after that he was touching holes at 100.

Well and well is a deep subject. Encores do shoot accurate but if you want it to shoot you will have to spend some bucks. On my first ML I cannot tell you how much I have spent(not even including time & testing) to get a 5 shot group under 1 moa at 100 yds.

I personally look to improve every shot, also to improve my shooting habits.

I must have gotten a gem from the factory. My Encore has had nothing added to it and has no modifications what so ever. The only thing I've had to do is add mounts and scopes to the barrels.

The gems do come along and that is great. Mine the trigger was nothing but slop, I'd have to squeeze a mile to fire and was about 4-5 lbs pull. I could move the barrel, even when closed. And the final this was the ML barrell crown was not centered. I had to fix all of that to get my groups that I get.

Mine loves the 105 gr of T7 (fff)with a 250 gr bullet. Putting 5 shots in a 9" circle is at 300yds is Ok but it is fun.

I shot it this weekend with Remington 200 gr core-lokt ammo. Groups went from 3-4 in at 100 yds down to 1 in. Either the hinge pin or glass bedding the fore arm did the trick. If anyone is interested the website is Bellmtcs.com.
