What are the chances of another widespread EHD outbreak with all this hot dry weather? I have seen two popular trees that are already dropping their leaves. I guess the trees are going to survival mode.

I am concerned as well. Most cases of EHD dont pop up until the end of July or August. I'm hoping it doesnt turn out like 2007

Last a saw Montgomery county and Stewart county were11-12" behind in total rainfall foe the year. Sure hope it rains soon. Corn looks bad in my area and the acorn crop im sure will suffer also.

im not too worried about edh (a little but not my biggest concern) I am worried about my pear trees, the browse situation, and the possibility of an acorn failure, or an early drop that changes our early season patterns.

I think we are still to close to 2007 for another major outbreak.

Normally, big HD outbreaks occur on a 6-7 year cycle. It's only been 5 years since our last one, but considering the weather conditions, it may be close enough. I know I'll be watching for signs of an outbreak in August.

Back in May

"Looks like we are in for a summer with little or no rain. Wonder how many deer will congregate around water holes and if so, how big will the die off be? Hopefully there is some immunity left over from the recent blue tongue episode we had."

I asked the same question. Talked to a friend in Chapel Hill today and they have not had any rain to speak of since the end of February.
