I've heard from a couple different sources (TWRA, U.S. Forestry Service, & friends) that EHD has hit a few different counties and WMA's across the state. I was just wondering what others had seen or heard of? My dad found a buck the other day up in the mountains that appears to have possibly died early in the season or just before the season. We are now thinking it could have been from EHD. If EHD has hit the state, that might explain some of the lack of deer sightings I and some of my friends have experienced this year.

I have heard in the past that a few counties are hit every year.Thank The Lord it hasn't been a state wide hard hitting year aagin. I think Benton co. is finally showing a good recovery from the one several years ago.

Deer die every year from EHD . Some areas are worse than others on any given year . I have not heard anything about any large scale cases this year , but I'm not really in the know .

I mainly hunt the mountains in E. TN. I know of several deer found dead and confirmed that it was EHD in Stewart Co., Campbell Co., and Oak Ridge WMA. Nothing large scale like a couple of years ago.

I know they are looking at several areas in Western KY
And I referred a Illinois tract to an agent I know up there,
he walked it today and found a 160" buck dead from Blue Tongue or EDH

I think its something thats here to stay, TN hunters will never keep the herd in control, so many will never shoot does

Hemorrhagic Disease (HD) has always been in our deer herds. It occurs every year. HD is endemic in the Southeast. The only difference from year to year is the number of deer that die from it. This year, I did hear from a few people that they were finding deer dead in locations that suggested HD. This isn't that uncommon during the late summer and early fall months. In fact, I'll hear a report or two every year. But we certainly did not experience an outbreak this year like we did in '07. That was the worst outbreak for TN in my memory. I SERIOUSLY doubt enough deer died this year that it would effect hunter sightings.

this has been a very wet year. drought years are worse for EHD as the deer are limited on their water sources and gather at the remaining water holes where the midges that carry the disease are most prevalent.

Like BSK said, happens to some extent every year, we have killed one EHD survivor ourselves this yr.

We've killed one surviver as well. Enzootic Hemorrhagic Disease will occur every year. Epizootic is a much more severe outbreak of Hemorrhagic Disease.
