Regardless of the dates, I'll hunt, but nothing I love more than trying to outwit a gobbler in winterlike hardwoods with no foliage. If I can get him to come look for me and not make me out before presenting a shot in the timber, I've accomplished my goal. Early spring greenup and later opener pretty much negates that opportunity in extreme SW TN.
Agreed that it's HARD. I've only killed a handful of gobblers in timber before Greenup. All because of terrain features bringing them to 35 to 40y of my set up.

Not really sure one gets my heart pumping more than another, but I must say I do also enjoy birds drumming at me less than 20y in full foilage, yet I can't even see them.

But no doubt about it... I'd much rather work a stubborn bird in full foliage. I can reposition without getting busted... and sometimes that reposition flips his trigger to commit.
