Eagle Beans vs Dyna gro Group 7 Beans

Ill be the first to say I love Eagle Beans, but you know how it is, Im always wanting to try other stuff and see whats out there.

My seed dealer had a product, "Trophy Beans" he called it, that is a Dyna Gro group 7 bean. So, I split a plot behind my house, half in Eagles and half in Trophy Beans.

---Planted May 5-28" row, no-tilled, both inoculated

---First Rain May 13 1.25 inches

---No measurable rain until July 4-They both looked awful, average 12" tall.

----August 1- We have had almost 2.25" of rain since July 4th

Both beans right now are the same size, with leaf width on the Eagles being slightly bigger, but not by much.

Both are flowering at this time, and the Dyna gro's being slighly more developed.

Problems----Marestail is awful in this plot. The front half of this plot is covered up with it and the difference in the beans is very obvious. They are not as tall, or as full. This plot has had two applications of gly mixed at 2 quarts an acre. The gly will burn the top 2 or 3 inches of the marestail, but thats it.

yes they are roundup ready, and cost me something like $65 a bag.

Going off memory, about 1/3 acre.

I think eagles run about $85/bag right? Little bit of cost savings there for it looks like almost the same production.

round up wont kill marestail and the stuff that will kills the beans....

I hate that crap, but I guess the frost will get it!! lol

Some local farmers around here have had good luck at waiting for it to come up and cutting with a heavy disc to cut the tap root, but as many seeds as that stuff produces, its a given its coming back.
