Duracoat

I will never have anything dura coated again. It scratches easily, and cleaning solvents will eat it. I'm not impressed at all.

I have used dura coat on quite a few of my rifles and shotguns. It is like doing any other painting/coating work, the final product is only as good as the prep work that you put into it. The only scratches I have ever had were due to me not letting it cure long enough before using the gun. I have never had any oils, lubes or cleaning solvents do anything to it. I am really OCD when it comes to prepping the metal before shooting the dura coat on it with an airbrush. There are a few other things to keep in mind as well, like using clean, dry air and making sure to mix the hardener properly. I am no professional but I have been very pleased with the guns that i have done.

It's closer to 300 degrees F for the H series of Cerakote (which is what is commonly used on firearms). I've had a couple rifles Cerakoted and they've held up well so far. After a while you can start to see it wear on the bolt but it doesn't wear as quickly as regular bluing.

As for Duracoat, I'd rattle-can it before I had it Duracoated. Once the spray paint gets a little wear to it you can just spray on a fresh coat.
