Dunstan Chestnuts

So this makes the 3rd summer for the 12 i planted around my house.basically for shade,
update. they have doubled in size, this in pure red clay in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Gone about 6 foot to over 12, most have chestnuts, several with 50 or more. just letting yall
know. Not saying they will ever help you kill a deer. But they have grown well and produced quickly.

Sounds like some nice progress...thanks for the update...its motivating....we have 4 Dunstan chestnuts and 1 Chinese chestnut. Hoping to add more in the future.

I spent the day mowing the property today and noticed live husks on a few of mine.

I planted 3 late drop bare root dunstans and one regular 3 gallon potted dunstan back in the spring. All have grown out the tops of 5 ft tubes i used. Have 3 dunstan trees, that made it from seed a member here sent me, that I will plant this fall.

They still aren't on sale at the local stores,
Prices for about $40 each, guess I should go ahead and buy a few.

This time of year Walmart should be discounting leftovers. If you find a store with any left talk to the garden center manager, see if they will discount. I have had great luck doing that. I got 12 last year at a Walmart for 15.00 apiece. They have 15 now that I am going to inquire about tomorrow.
