Drought and black tongue

Last time we had unusually dry weather we lost a lot of deer to black tongue disease. Any indications that this is happening again?

Buddy just sent a pic of 2 deer floating in some water. So I'd say yes

I haven't seen any, but the property that is next to mine has two ponds that have water, and PP is a lake so they have water there.

My buddy in Fayette county has lost a few bucks that he knows of and his neighbor has lost 8 bucks to it.

EHD..it shows up every year ..some years worse then others.
EHD is different then Black or Blue tongue,not the same disease ....lot of people think they are.

I'm thinking of the one that gets spread more because the deer gather near limited water resources. Spread by some kind of flying insect.

Its EHD and is often called Blue or black tongue because of the similarities of Blue tongue in Cattle. Not the same however. SP? "Endozootic hemmorage disease" is what EHD stands for. Spread by a biting insect that gets in the nasal cavity, drought years seem to be the worst because deer congregate at limited water sources where the midges actually hatch.
