Anyone have any experience on the DPMS Panther rifle. The price is really low now and thinking about getting one. Been pricing new ones at $550 with flat top rail. Should I buy or wait till come down lower?

I have had no problems with DPMS, but as with other low end AR's there are some things to watch out for. Probably the most common thing would bolt key pins not being staked properly. Another would be chipped extractors (especially when shooting Russian steel ammo). Some people bad mouth DPMS and Delton and other manufacuters of Cheaper AR's. I've had a couple of DPMS flattops and they have performed very good. But I also will not shoot Russian ammo.

DPMS is not well thought of by the AR snobs. I guess I am not smart enough to know any better. My DPMS has shot well with any ammo that I have tried. It has killed deer and coyotes that didn't know they were killed with an inferior AR. I would buy another without hesitation. My biggest complaint about DPMS is they tend to put heavy barrels on their rifle which I don't like to carry around. They aren't going to get any cheaper as the election nears. PH

I wouldnt call a dpms a lower end ar.. maybe im out of the loop... but before I bought mine I did a ton of research and they were pretty well thought of back when obummer went into office.. my question is where are you buying them for $550.00.. I think you are pricing a upper only..

Our Walmart has the DPMS Sportical rifles for about $590, it's the one with no fwd assist.

Yeah but he said it was one of the panther rifles. The sporticals are fine to plink with, but the ones ive shot are not that accurate. I have had the special bull panther 24inch and now have a panther sweet sixteen and they shoot as good as any i have seen, But both of these are heavy barrel guns. Cant say for sure on the pencil barrel ones other than the two sporticals i shot. They seem to be 3-inch guns at a hundred at best. And before I get bashed, im sure all are not that way but the two I shot were.

I've seen them everywhere from pawn shops, Gunbroker, and even Wal-Mart for around the $550-$600 mark. I'll usually catch someone needing some money like on most gun deals and get one even lower. Most of the best deals occur in the parking lot and not in a store. Thanks for all the advise. Think I'll get one and give her a try. Heck the old A-1 that I shot in the Marines had a pencil barrel and would punch holes at 500 yds, surely they are some better now.

Ok that makes more sense if you were talking bout a used one. Just remember you get what you pay for.

Lol you are right Dirttrax. Got my Sportical out of the safe this am and fired 2 3-shot groups at 104 yds. This isn't my hunting load or it would have been more centered. It shoots good enough for me and I ain't the best shooter nor have the best bench equipment either. Fortunately mine shoots pretty good with groups from sub 1" to 1.5" easily. I know every rifle is an individual but I think the Sportical is a great little AR-light, handy, hunting accurate, fairly inexpensive. PH

Plateau, theres nothing wrong with those guns. Like you said, cheap lite and plenty accurate enough to kill. But if you want a one hole gun your gonna have to pay to play.
