How come no matter what time of year it is, everyone ages deer in half years? A buck is always 2.5 or 3.5, but it never seems to be 2 or 3. I started thinking about this and went back to summer and people always age them like that.

They are only aged in half years when viewed/killed during the Fall season, which puts them at a half year or very close due to birthing times most places.

What Winchester said.

Because deer are born in late spring, yet normally killed (and aged) in fall, they are at half-year increments: 1/2, 1 1/2, 2 1/2, 3 1/2, etc.
