I just bought a new bass boat, and the fish finder that came with it is a basic cheapo. I would love to get a side scan or bottom scan fish finder for my boat. Only problem is i know nothing about em. I would like to stay under 1k if possible. Any idea's?

I got a Humminbird Down Imaging HD unit. got some pretty good discounts at the spring fishing classic. However, got to tell you, for what i paid for it, i would have been just as happy with the 300$ unit vs. 600$ range. Heck, i may just not know how to use it properly though either :)

Side Imaging will change the way you fish.Especially if you
fish larger bodies of water. Humminbird are easier to use
IMO. The menus are much more straight forward than Lowrance
units but that is not to say the Lowrance are bad. They are
great too, just different and not quite as user friendly.

Get the largest screen you can afford. If you choose Humminbird
go here http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/ and do some reading.
Any questions just yell.

I always had cheapos as well. With that said when I got my new boat, I went with the Lowrance HDS 7 and 5 Gen 2 with structure scan. They are great and very easy to use.

Exact 2 I have on my new Z8. An HDS7 with Insight and the Platinum Navionics East card installed in the console, with a 5 at the trolling motor.
