Deer season over = trapping time

I haven't trapped in a couple of years but kinda got the bug to run a few. Seeing lots of tracks in the snow last weekend got me going too.

My main goal is to thin out some raccoons to try and give my turkey population some help.

Well I went and set up a few DP traps along a creek that runs through the farm. It was then I discovered I have a beaver or several that have taken up residence in my creek and built a small dam. Lucky for me and I hope unlucky for them I had a Conibear in the trap box ready to go. Those things make me nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I got it set right where a little side drainage dumps into the creek. They have been using it as a slide.

After 24 hours 2 of the DP's had a coon in them. One male and one female. They just can't resist a marshmallow! Sorry, no catch pics. Left my phone at the house. The male had destroyed the area around the trap. Nothing in the beaver trap yet.

I had one small coon out of four sets . I'll check and probably pull tomorrow with all the rain in the forecast my place will probably flood. Congrats on the catches!

I haven't reset any of my racoon sets yet. Been to wet and nasty to fool with them, especially during the week. Still no luck on the beavers. I moved my trap today to another spot in the creek with some fresh sign. Got in a jar of beaver lure yesterday. We'll see if that tempts them or not. That stuff STINKS!

Finally got some dry weather to get the traps set again. Caught another raccoon and got a couple of coyote sets made. I think a fox uncovered one of my coyote traps. I adjusted the trap placement and remade the set. Hoping to catch my first yote or another fox soon.
