So I picked up a property that borders land owned by a government agency. There is a good possibility that if I shot a deer on the piece of private land that I have permission to access, it will run onto the non-huntable government land and expire. There are no fences separating the private land from the government land. I have looked at the regulation book but can't find anything that tells me if I am allowed to retrieve the wounded deer or not if it is arrowed legally by me on the private land and crosses the line to expire. Please advise...

Re: Deer retrieval

My take would be that under the legal definition of hunting that if the land is closed to hunting you could not pursue your deer across the line. I think at a minimum it would take permission from the government agency to do so.

But, that is just my opinion. I would be discussing it before it happens with the local officer that will most likely have to deal with it if it happens.
