east tn
There has been a lot of talk about the deer population in west tn. and the 3 a day toll. I know it's hard to put a blanket regulation on the whole state but there are areas in east tn that really needs a doe reduction! not 3 a day or even 2 a day but we need some taken out! The area I hunt has probably 3,000 acres around me that no one hunts and we have does out our rear ends! We can't hunt all of it and they don't allow other hunters. we have almost no sign of a rut and haven't for several years. I don't know what can be done if anything probably nothing just a little rant on a blanket season covering an entire section! sorry about the rant!!!! I'm done now! lol

You can get a depredation permit from the state if you have crop damage. Otherwise you need to have a dove shoot for does. A balanced herd is so important for a concentrated rut. You have witnessed that first hand.

The landowners have tried to get a depredation permit several times with no luck! He had to plant his pasture 3 times before the alfalfa Finally took! lol twra.did not consider that crop damage last year! it had to be a garden!

count your blessings where I hunt in east tenn. I saw 0 deer last 2 weeks of season
I do count my blessing! I know not every part of East TN is like this!just saying that some counties have very little pressure now than the past! saw 10 to 15 does just about every time I hunted this year!

Unfortunately these type areas are far and few between in East TN, making it hard to manage for limited small areas, as MOST of East TN definitely doesn't need more liberal doe kills vs what we have now!

Unless you control a significant amount of land, I am not sure it would help a lot if you have that much acreage around you that is not hunted. If the population is that high, and no one hunts around you, there should be a lot of bucks as well.

I believe if you have 1000 continguous acres or more, you can enroll in TN's version of MS's DMAP program where a state deer biologist will visit your property, check browse lines, review wt, jawbone age, lactation rates, and antler characteristics and after compiling data, will make a recommendation for number of bucks/ does to be killed the following year. I 'think' they will issue additional doe tags for the property if indicated like MS does (not certain on that)... So if you have 3000 acres, you should definetly contact your local biologist and enroll on the program.

That's the problem! I don't have it but no one else is hunting it either! lol some of it is clear cut and very nasty cover. With so many does running around we see almost no rutting activity at all.

Where I hunt in East Tenn we need to cut out the December doe gun hunts.Just the opposite of your problem.I guess every area is different.I would like to be able to go back to taking a doe during bow and muzzleloader hunts but they are just to few deer in my area and they need to build back up.

pickett. I understand about the illegal people! I know of two that were poached in the area around us.a pretty good buck! then someone shot a doe and cut the back straps out and threw away the rest in a creek! don't have a clue who did it just saw the deer!
