Decoy question

Last weekend during juvenile, we did not have any decoys out. We had a tom and hen come into 100 yards and hang up.

This morning we had two toms and two hens come into about 70 yards. We had a hen and Jake decoy out. The two toms saw the decoys and ran.

I'm just getting back into turkey hunting because my boys love hunting/fishing. I thought we had it in the bag this morning. What did I do wrong?

A group of jakes will whoop a Tom. Sounds like he's been whooped before. Decoy/decoys can often hurt you as much as they help you at times.

Yes. I use 2 hens.

I would use no decoys at all , use the lay of the land to make him look for you. Good luck!

No decoys and get in the woods, field birds are notorious for hanging up, the first time you see him he should be in range

I use a hen and a jake decoy. The jake is in a lookout posture snd the hen is feeding. I have killed a lot of gobblers with that set up. I mostly use that in open fields. Good luck .

That's exactly what I did this morning. Those toms wanted nothing to do with it.
