So I went down to my pond this morning to find most if not all my fish dead. From the largest bass we had 6lb to the smallest bluegill we had. So my question is this from us not having rain in 5 weeks now it has dried up from about an acre+ to about 5/8 of an acre and dropped about 6ft. If not what could have caused this it literally happenend within 2days.

Same is happening to ponds all over. Just cant take the heat with no oxygen coming in to the water! Bad yr for ponds without a water source running in them!

Have you ever tried draining the pond and planting underwater plants. Idk if it would work but seeing how plants produce oxygen you never know.

My cousin had the same thing happen and he started to back his bushhog halfway into his pond and running it 30 minutes a day after he found a few fish dead. Not sure if it helped any or just made him feel better, but he did not lose anymore fish.

This post got me to thinking about pond vegetation. I know many people who put dye in the water or spray chemicals to kill or supress the vegitation growing around the banks of their ponds. I do not do this. My pond is very low, but has lots of vegitation around the banks and out into the shallow water. My thinking is that this will produce cover for baitfish, shade and oxygen. I do not care if it is hard to get a lure or hook to them at this point. Thank goodness I haven't lost any fish that I know of yet despite the water level being as low as I have seen yet. I probably only have 3-4 feet along the levy bank and the rest is 1-2 feet deep now. I am wondering if the vegitation is helping or is it just a matter of time?
