anybody got one or handled one??

I am thinking about selling the CDLSS 300RUM and getting either a 550 American 308 or a 527 223,,

I dont think after this shoulder surgery ordeal I will ever be able to shoot it enough to keep in practice.

right now I am leaning towards the 527 Varmint 223 with the 9 twist,,

I have the CZ 527 in 223 and it is unbelievable accurate. I have heard from others that own the CZ550 that they are also as accurate. The prices sure have gone up though since they are being more and more popular. I don't think you will go wrong buying one.

I was get one of those in 6.5x55. It had beautiful stock but I remember it to be heavy(about 8 lbs). I passed.

yeah thats what I figured,,I really think the way I hunt most of the time now and with the skill set I use a 223 would work as well as anything,,

really considering the 527 M1 American in 223 with the 12 twist,,with a straight 4X Leupold scope and just hunt,,

I have a CZ 550 in .243....Accurate gun after bedding job. All steel and heavy.

i have killed a thing or two with my well worn cz 527 .223. it has done more than its share of wet work

here are a few...

the americans are very nice, but heavy as hillbilly stated. they are slim cut, so i am not sure where they get there heft. i am not sure they make a short action (the 223 is on a micro action, will not even work for 22-250) so i would bet a 308 would come with a spacer, which would disqualify me.

The 550s are all on a long action whether it is a .308 based cartridge or a .30-06 based cartridge. The only difference is .308 based uses a magazine (steel) and .30-06 uses a floorplate. Whoever said the 550 was heavy isn't kidding. It also has a long LOP in my opinion. I like shooting it for range work but do not use it for hunting due to the weight.

The newer 550s has a much slimmer stock but the older ones are fat and could use some weight trimming. When I bought mine, they could be bought for a song and dance....Not so much anymore. People have figured out that CZs are a great setup for the money. My CZ 452 American is what put me onto the CZ 550.
