Decided this year id retire my old goto REM 700ML because its a pain to clean. I bought a CVA Optima V2 stainless/black. gonna put a Nikon 3-9 on it. Trying to figure out what loads to run threw it. in my Remington I always ran 110gr 777 and a 295gr powerbelt, Never have had any issues with this load but reading various forums people talk about Lost deer due to powerbelts. Was thinking about trying 300gr hornady SSTs, whats everybodys opinion on loads?

I have never lost a deer shooting Powerbelts. My CVA Electra loves the 348 grain Powerbelt with 110 grains of Pyrodex RS. Half dollar size groups all day at 100 yards.

Might be worth it to pick up and try some tc xtp mags(hornady bullets). Use the 240 grain here in my accura and it holds pretty impressive groups. Triple 7 use loose loads 115 grains.

90 grains of blackhorn 209 with a 185 grain C.O.P. bullet with a short black harvester sabot

Has CVA changed the breech plugs for better burn with BH 209? I'm pretty sure my buddy ordered a different plug for his Optima V2 last year.

No they still come with the same breach plug but you can buy a replacement breech plug specifically for shooting blackhorn 209.

Ive been playing around with it the last week or so, started with 110gr loose 777 and 296gr powerbelt AT but was getting 2-3in 100yard groupings, still woulda killed deer but I knew itd do better. Yesterday I was out waisting ammo in my AR15 and decided id try something else in the muzzleloader. Loaded 110gr loose 777 and 300gr SSTs man what a improvement. Less than a inch group at 100yards
