Creek Fishing

I know rooster tails is what alot of people suggest when fishing a creek( myself included) but what other baits do the Red Eye and Bass hit well? I have also noticed that in the creeks lately I am catching more fish in the middle of the water instead of against banks and under fallen trees. I have really got into creek fishing this summer. Does anyone have any tips or techniques to share? Maybe bait of choice? Thanks!

I have had fair luck with rapala minnows. I like the gold broke back.

Small beetle spins. If there are thick weeds in the river, cast the BS downstream and retrieve along the edge of hte weeds. Redeyes and Smallies hide under the weeds in the shade, then dart out to grab the beetle spin. (The spinner keeps the BS from snagging.

Ditto , I caught some smallies and spots on Beetle spins doing the same thing along river banks with rock or weeds . Shaded banks were the key today .

Slider worms on Slider heads. Black with a chartreuse tail and solid golden glitter are my favorites depending on water clarity.

Thanks I actually have been using the broken back (black body) and the beetle spins alot. I have had success with both, however the pink rooster tail I have been using has been getting ate up. Does anyone use spinner baits in the creeks, or what type of plastic worms/lizards?

The tiny crawfish crankbaits work really well on rocky shoals for me, as well as 1/16 oz jigs with red/white or black/chartreuse tails. It is hard to beat a rooster tail, though (the yellow/green ones that kind of look like a grasshopper are my favorite).

Try the Case Hellgrammite (from Case Plastics). I like to rig it weedless on a crappie slider head and crawl it across the bottom. Best soft plastic for smallmouth and rock bass that I've ever found.

Rebel Craw,Yum Crawbugs on 1/4 oz jig heads,Slider Whirly Bees,1/4 oz Hoppy's Flea Flicker or Bitsy Bug(Pumpkin Craw).Those are my favorites.As for techniques I fish mainly rock and swift water or right outside swift water.I stay away from dead water as much as possible when I'm floating the river.Good Luck!!

I throw a watermelon Zoom Fat Albert or 4" Zoom Ringworm most of the time, and a Fluke Jr or baby Senko the rest.

i like to throw out kastaways, slowly retrieve em just enough so it wobbles. these are the cheaper version of the kastmasters.
their called kast-away cuz youll eventually loose em all.
