What's the purpose of the .070 freebore ? Maybe to seat longer bullets ?

Reason for the additional freebore is as you mentioned, to seat the bullet further out. This allows a couple things: first, it allows more power room. The 260 with many of the VLD bullets takes up valuable powder space when loaded to SAAMI spec 2.800"

Secondly, this freebore puts the 130 VLD bullet shank just in front of the neck/shoulder junction. This will prevent donuts from forming over repeated firings.
