As it's getting time to put in the hard work, be careful out there. This big guy was hanging out under my sprayer when I went to hook it up!

My dad saw one last night on the back patio. We've seen more this year than in a long time.

On this topic, anybody wear snake gators, especially early season? I was thinking of them vs snake boots. Normally I wear rubber boats, which I'm not sure if snake fangs can get through them or not. Thoughts?

Snake fangs can definitely penetrate rubber boots. I used to wear them also, but finally bought a pair of snake boots. I figured my luck held out long enough and just didn't want to take any more chances out on my place by myself most times.

Rocky low country snake boots. Cotton mouths around here don't play. Also the regular copper head in ginseng woods won't hurt ya.

i had a friend that stated the a snake has to have something solid (leg for example) in order to bite and sink the fangs. mainly stating the lower jaw and fangs have to work together to push the fangs into the leg. he thinks if a snake bites a loose rubber boot the snake will fill it's mouth up with rubber and not contact the leg.

i'm not willing to test that theory.

I have a pair I bought at Academy that just wrap around and buckle. I've used them a time or two during turkey season.
