In recent years I have posted pictures of our dove field waste deep in Balansa clover. It has successfully reseeded itself now entering its 5th season. It dies in August and I kill anything else there in preparation for dove season burning or disking the field. Then in September Balansa usually comes back. Due to drought conditions this year it's late but it's back again.

A few months ago the topic of a new clover called "Q" clover was posted and I decided to give it a go. I really like the idea of a 2-4 D tolerant clover so I added it to a winter blend to start it and protect it in. I have planted several hundred pounds of it in various conditions this fall. Below is its beginning in an established plot that I would love to have as a clover plot for turkey season and again in bow season.

Both look great! Thanks for trying the Q on a much larger scale than I did. Plan on frost seeding a bunch more of it. Balansa & Berseem are the only 2 clovers that I've never been able to grow. Jealous.

Plots looked GREAT!!!

How do you get your Balansa to survive until August???

Mine produces tons of forage, goes to seed in May, then starts browning/ going dormant or dead. Its gone by end of June.

I get a lot of volunteer reseeding, but not THAT good!!!

North facing slope, really good soil from years of soil building crops and compost on an industrial scale
I get 2 flushes of bloom set and seed. The seed production per acre must be 250 to 300 lbs.
I recently gained a bee keeper with 20 hives, he loves our place.
Thanks by the way

I plan to evaluate establishment in December/ January and possibly frost in a 2nd application and I have a couple plots I cannot get to with equipment that are steep and rocky that will get a huge frost seeding in January or February
