I'm trying to find somebody that would like to do an OTC elk hunt with me first week of Sept. I'd like to hunt that whole week and have two days of travel on front/back end of that week. I've got an atv that could go with me. Right now I think I'd go in for half the week backcountry style and come out middle of the hunt for one night in town to recharge.

You need to have a way to pack meat, and be able to get around well. I'm 37 and in decent shape.

Anytime you could go is good but if u can the second or third weeks are historically better in the areas I hunted in Colorado.also there is a guy on tndeer that was looking for a possible partner for a rifle hunt a while back. I think he posted about it in the camping forum. Good luck.

I wouldn't say no pressure but would agree that last week is probably better most years. Where I hunt it's 50/50 the weather will get ya that last week so I'm usually down by then. Something to consider

As in no pressure, area we hunt we never see anyone last week, even with muzzleloader going on. Never have. Ive hunted 17 yrs out there, we don't even see many in 1st rifle. Elk are sometimes hard to find if not vocal, unless you know the area you are hunting. We usually have lots of bugling last week, and most always get on elk, plus, again, you have to be able to get meat out quick, later is usually cooler.

Agree TW, we'll be in our spot the last 10 days of season & don't expect to see anyone else. I think in 2004, we had 4 ML hunters for a few days.
