A friend has a Christensen Ridgline 300 PRC NIB I'm thinking about buying. What are the pros/cons on the model and caliber?

The bad news about the caliber is that its just another designer cartridge that you will have to reload to be able to shoot. If you find it, it will probably be $2-$3 a round or more. Not bad if it's a low round count hunting rifle. Pretty expensive if it's a long-range target toy.

The good news about that round is it was selected as the round for the U.S. Army's and Marine Corps' standard issue sniper rifle. So it will pick up a heavy following.

Both my brother and I both have CAs but not the Ridgeline so can't speak to the specific questions you pose. That being said, we're both CA fans. We have the Traverse model; one in 22-250 and the other in 270WSM. VERY pleased with fit, finish, accuracy etc.

If it's a good deal buy it. I have a 300 wm ridgeline that I traded for new but if I was spending the cash I would go bergara carbon. I have the 300 prc in the HMR wilderness $50 a box they are not much higher than anything else.

It's definitely a deal that would be hard to pass up. I've never shot a 300 PRC. How much difference is it from a 300 win mag? I plan on running it suppressed if I get it.

The hmr is a heavier rifle which probably made a little difference but I couldn't tell much difference.

The 300 PRC is a great cartridge, especially if you are hunting/target shooting at longer range. It really shines above the 300WM if you are shooting heavier projectiles. If your want to shoot 180's or maybe even 200's, the Win Mag would be just fine if not a better choice. If you want to shoot 225's or 245's the PRC is the way to go. There is decent factory ammo available so being a handloader is not a must. Recoil energy will be somewhere around 15% give or take more than the 300WM.

As far as the Christensen go, it seems that you have a good chance of getting a fantastic one and an equally good chance of getting a bad one. I'd really look into why he is selling it.

He is having a lot of health problems. The gun is still new in the box. He never got a chance to shoot it. It's a pretty sweet deal. I guess if it's a lemon I could send it back to CA. I plan on shooting 600-1000 yards.

I have the Ridgeline FFT in 300 win mag and I love it, I went with win mag instead of prc because I wasn't sure how easy it would be to get factory ammo for the prc but I've been seeing on shelves.

I've got a Ridgeline and a Ridgeline FFT Sitka in 6.5 PRC. No flies on either of them. I have been seeing 300 PRC ammo on the shelves also.
