ok guys just looking for some guidance as i have never been hunting in the blinds on the wma, we got drawn for blind 4 in rogers creek early december. and blinds 2 and 3 in johnsons bottoms in january. how is the hunting usually and what can we expect. it will be new for my group for sure.

It has been several years since I have hunted those 2 areas, but if the birds are down, if the bottoms are planted in corn/millet and you don't have a bunch of skybusters you can have some really good hunts. I would be most excited for your January hunt as December will be hit or miss depending on how cold it gets up north. You can get a really nice mix of birds, shot most of my black ducks in that area. As far as spreads, you never see more than 20 birds in a flock and I always found using a smaller more realistic spread with some motion to be successful. Good luck!

I hunted Rogers last year. TWRA put 8 blinds on a 10 acre field. Imagine public dove hunting on opening day, no matter who has the most decoys out, 1 duck comes in between 8 blinds/32 guns and everyone is no more than 75 yards from the center of the field, guess what happens. There was also only 2 blinds that even had more than 2" of water in front of it last year when I was there. About 1000 yard walk back to the blind we were at from the parking area also. Oh yeah, and when I say blind, there's just a metal T post with a number on the levey which was just 4" tall grass. No actual cover. You have to bring layouts or your own portable blind of some sort.

thanks guys. i was kinda afraid of the dove hunt type of fields at rogers creek the way thay have the blinds marked out. who knows maybe the december hunt can yeild some local birds not shot at yet. and we can get a push for the january hunts
