Had 6 flatheads, 4 channel and one 4ft gar this morning on jugs. This is the biggest.

That's a big one! Do you eat em that size?
I turn most that weigh over 10lbs loose. I can't tell any difference in a 3lb flathead and a 25lb flathead when eating, but the big ones are much harder to clean, hard on electric fillet knives and I would like to catch a monster one day and think it was one we have turned loose in the past!

What were you baiting with and how deep were you fishing your jugs?
Medium to large live bluegill(sunperch, warmouth, bluegill), 2-3 oz sinker. 6-15 ft of size 21 twisted, tarred line. Sinker on bottom with a foot or two of slack in line so noodle will stay in place. The flatheads will fight for a few minutes and then just go and lay on the bottom. If a noodle is moving the next morning, it usually has a channel or gar.

Good to know. Never really fished for catfish but seems you could feed an army with one that size.

What kind of knot is the best for tying hooks when using jugs? I bought a spool of the trotline type string from walmart to rig up some jugs, the kind that has a waxey like feel to it and am not sure what knot to use.

I run the line thru the eye of the hook, tie a knot in the end of line, then I just use a double overhand knot. Make sure you pull it tight, I haven't had any trouble with hooks coming loose.
