Please excuse my ignorance but here ya go....

Had a guy that I work with that said he went to the Caney Fork and trout fished this weekend.
Said they caught about 50.

I knew they didn't fly fish so I asked what they used, just out of curiosity, not that I am going or anything.

Night crawlers with WD40.

My BS meter started going off but it was in the "ya never know" range so I thought I would ask if anyone had ever heard of this.

He also added that they caught a bunch of brook trout that they threw back because they thought they were browns and they apparently have a size limit on browns.

Just curious.

I've never heard of putting WD-40 on nightcrawlers but alot of the Salmon and Trout fishermen up here spray it on their lures. I've never tried it personally.

A Old timer on the Salmon River in New York taught me that trick years ago.. i still use it every now and again and it does work.. it masks the odor on your hands and gives off a scent that trout and Salmon really like. I used to carry a small can with me for every fishing trip...

It really does work, I met an old man down there a few years back who sprays wd-40 on niblet corn, the rainbows didn't seem to care for it but the small browns were tearing it up.

I tried spraying some on my minners, but then I couldn't hold em to get the hook in.

Didn't read all the posts so if this has been said, scuse me. WD-40 has been used for years as an attractant. It is a close kin to Presparation H in that it tends to bubble in the water. This is not a joke. Both WD-40 and Prep H, when rubbed on either live bait or soft plastic will bubble in the water. Good attractant.

Now. WD-40, when sprayed on an arthritic joint, such as a finger, wrist or elbow can provide some relief because it tends to absorb the moisture. That is what makes it bubble. Been used for years and is illegal in major tournaments...or at least I was told it was.

I thought of a joke that would involve confusion between your WD-40 and your Preparation H, but I'm pretty sure it would get me banned from this forum. Use your imagination.
