So is online the best place to buy traps?

Cushion hold type is what I am talking about.

Just curious where to get them.

Right now the trapping supply houses have dealing with a mad rush for months. The only place I recommend is MTP. Here's the link.

They make the Minnesota Brand traps, which are top notch. The also distribute to most other supply houses. They have never made a mistake on a single order and I've ordered many times from them. If you put your order in online....you can pick a free gift. There pretty much the only one's I deal with if I can avoid going elsewhere.

Figure out everything you need and knock it out in one shot.

No problem....when you get your list together, post it up if you want suggestions to see if you're missing anything.

I was looking at the Minnesota Brand traps and there are like 6 different 650's.
I can't tell the difference in any of them and can't tell if any or all come with the rubber on the jaws??

I feel like a football bat. :D

Do tell, I am ignorant to everything dealing with trapping.

I will be doing dry land I suppose.
Make the set and cover with dirt is what I been seeing on videos.

If you are just looking for a dedicated yote/cat trap....a 650 is an awesome trap. Big pan, big trap. IMO they are too big for fox and coon. You can adjust the pan tension on them with a turn screw. So you can set them to catch fox and coon. But I don't think it would be pretty. Due to the size and no loose jaw, a little harder to bed. I can't set a 650 over me knee. They make setters but I think they are dangerous if you loose your grip on them, I have heard of guys getting smacked by them. I set 650's on the ground which is fine if not too much mud or snow. I only use them if I am targeting yotes or cats without concern for fox and coon, and where I am confident stray dogs won't be an issue. If you are only looking to catch cats and yotes, and don't mind spend a little more time making each set, then 650's are the ticket!

The 550 is a lot easier to set, I set them on my knee. I recommend the 2 coil. It will hold a yote no problem and is a better trap for a mixed line. They bed more easily due to size, loose jaw, and the trap frame. I have used the offset 550 and the rubber jaw a couple times as well. The rubber jaw will probably hold coon better than the offset, but I have had some coons pull out of the offset. The pan tension is a little stout for grey fox although you can catch them some if not most of the time. They catch reds no problem. I use the 550 a lot and it is a great trap. I am moving more toward the 450 because of coons and greys, but they don't make that in a rubber jaw.

Might be a good idea to get a couple of both and see what you like. They are great traps.

Speaking of stray dogs, I highly recommend getting a catch pole. Makes it a lot easier to release strays.

Here is a great vid on making a catch pole.

Thanks for the info Passthru.

Hardly any fox around here, PILES of yotes and some bobcats.

actually with what I saw at the creek today, I probably need to get some 750's for beaver first.

Got a dozen CHEAP duke #3's for land trapping which will have to do until I get some fur sold.

Crap... Now the dilemma 550 or 650 ?

might try a couple of each. I had a few 650's in the shed for a couple years before I ever set one. But I do like them and bought some more. However I would not want to have to release a stray dog out of one. It is hard enough to get it off a dead yote.

they are both superior made traps.

I got 3 Bridger #5's brand new over on the trap shed on T-man. The are pretty closer to a 750 than a duke is to a 650 :D Let me know if your interested I'll knock a little off. I've got more beaver traps than I'll be able to use in this life.
