My dad and I are looking a used boat to buy from one of our good friends. It is a 1992 bass tracker pro 17 with a Mercury 1992 40hp motor with a 60 pound thrust trollomg motor I think. It has a brand new motor trim and new carborator. He had about 1800 dollars worth of work done to the motor last year. Brand new lowrance depth finder. The carpet is the only that needs to be redone to make it look good. It runns great. Is $2,000 a good price? Opinions are welcome.

To me that is not a bad price. But to be safe take it to a boat mechanic and have the motor checked out. That way you are covered to somewhat.

Yeah, I have thought about taking it to my mechanic. I have taken the boat out on multiple occasions since the work on the motor was done and the motor has been flawless.

Makes sense. I will check into it. If we do buy the boat, I am going to get the carpet redone for sure. If the decks are rotted out when we replace the carpet, I may have to replace the decks. Is it hard to replace the decks/floor if they are rotted out?

Gotta be careful with old Bass Trackers, unless it's been stored indoors or under a shed all its life theres a good chance it might have deck and or floor rot! They are notorious for that. If you check it out and ANY of the wood is questionable, pass on it and look for those built with aluminum decks like Lowe etc...

Good luck,
HL
x2 For the motor, you could do a compression check and lower unit.
