Bullet found in creek

Really hoping you guys can tell me something about this. Me and my son were snorkeling Little River in Townsend. He came to me and said, "daddy, look at this, it looks like a bullet". I told him I was pretty sure it was. I've looked at lots of old bullet pics but cannot find one exactly like it. I've attached some pics to see if you can identify it and give some info...

I don't know, but I don't think a civil war bullet would have a cannelure like that?? It also doesn't appear to me it was fired.
My WAG would be something along the lines of a .38 lead round nose.

Enlarge pic 3… It's a smokeless powder era round. There were single groove .36 and .44 conicals as far back as the 1850s, but they did not have "tank tread"…

Grew up beside a " revenuer " in SW VA! He busted stills in Franklin , Patrick , and Henry counties in the late 60's and early 70's.

Franklin county was at one time " moonshine capital of the world " and proudly had a huge sign on Route 220!
