Food Plots Buckwheat?

What is it? Do the deer really like it? Will it remain green during the winter?

Its a cereal grain, some deer like it and it goes through a complete life cycle in about 6 weeks. Frost will kill it, so no its not winter hardy.

Its a great soil conditioner, naturally reseeds so getting multiple crops out of it is doable if you plant early enough.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking about putting some of my food plot in soybeans and buckwheat here in a few weeks.

If I can get a spot broke up by the end of the month I am planting some leftover beans in with buckwheat as well. Never done it before but Im sure it will work.

They love it ..... I planted some last fall and the deer hammered it until frost killed it.... Hard to see but the white flowers is Buckwheat ...

How expensive is the seed?

I've never planted a pure stand of Buckwheat but have used a lot of it in mixes. Deer do eat it and it grows well. I've always planted it in late May or June and even sometimes early July. Frost does kill it.
