Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Im sure this question has been asked many times before but Ive never seen it so Im going to be the one to ask. I am looking for the best broadhead I can get to shoot in my compound. For many years I have shot rage and only a couple times have they ever let me down. I really dont want this to be a debate on which is better fixed or mechanical. Im sure if we took a pole the room would be split down the middle on which people prefer. Back to the question, I have read all the reviews but I feel most of them are only commenting to help sell their product. So from your own experience what has proven itself the best in the field. I do need to make a note that Im not like most bow hunters. I dont get excited to see how close I can get a deer to come in before I take the shot. I get my excitement from seeing how far away I can make the shot and get the job done. My farthermost shot has been 54 yards and the only reason I have not tried to shoot farther is because I lost the deer. It is actually the only deer I have ever lost with a bow and yes it was due to a bad rage broadhead. When I got to my arrow the broadhead was still folded in its original position. The blades never opened and only caused a "pin hole" to go trough the deer. So since then I have been to nervous to take a shot farther than that afraid i would get a repeat on blades not opening. I am a fan of fixed blade broadheads I just worry about them staying true at longer distances. For example I have a few G5 Montec. I love the solid piece that is very easy to sharpen once shot. Anyways, what is your opinion of the best broadhead for what I am trying to accomplish. Thanks

Spitfire Max 60+ deer and zero failures.

Original Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain. Killed many with them and only 2 didnt pass thru, spine and my boys xbow. The xbow was cheap and only good to about 25 yards, shot a 16" bolt and hit a doe at 11 yards slightly quartering away, busted thru one rib and had about 9" of penetration. Ran about 50 yards, bleed like a stuck hog, and her insides looked like Freddy Kruger had paid a visit. Even got a doe a few years back that turned her head to lick as I shot and ended up going thru jaw, front shoulder, busting 2 ribs coming out and buried in the ground 10"+, ran around 30 yards and DONE. Shoulders, ribs, heart, or lungs its all the same to a Muzzy. Also have only replaced one blade due to being broke cause it hooked a rock other than that just cause they dull.

Lots of opinions out there on this subject. If your bow is tuned good any of the big name broadheads will shoot as accurately as you can for as far as you can. Take a Muzzy, Magnus, Slick Trick, or Thunderhead and run it thru a deers lungs and they'll all kill it just as dead as the others.

I am a big fan of Shwacker broad heads. They have proven themselves with accuracy, dependability, durability, and a reasonable price.

I'll assume for the sake of discussion that you're in the top 1% of archers in shooting ability. Even with that level of skill, I just can't understand the ethics of your approach. If you have confidence through practice and experience that you can make a shot, go for it. Nothing at all to defend about that. However, trying to set personal records for shot distances really isn't showing respect for the animal or the privelege we have of hunting it. Just food for thought...

Swhackers. Everything I have shot with them had died in sight.

I am shooting Swhackers now. I shot spitfire before that. Both will kill well and I have had zero issues with them.

I do like the looks of those new muzzy hybrids tho. They look like they would put the smack down on anything.

The only issues I had with broadhead back in the day were with the old razorback 5. Lost several does and a couple bucks with them.

Slick Trick Magnum if going fixed

My personal preference is the Rage Xtreme. They've killed probably 20 deer for me and I killed at least that many with the original rage too. I can't fathom how that Broadhead can penetrate without deploying. I'm not saying it's not possible but I can't imagine it. I've killed many many deer with mechanicals and helped track many more with mechanicals.

I can understand blades failing by breaking or getting deflections on the over the top style on close shots.

I feel mechanicals get some bad press from many hunters simply because their arrow didn't go exactly where they thought it did.

Anyway, if you're going to go with a fixed head, my favorite is the Slick Trick Magnums. I've had good luck with them and a couple hunting buddies use them religiously. The QAD Exodus gets a lot of high praise as well. The only mechanicals that are pretty popular that I don't care for are the Killzones and G5 Havocs. Both of those take entirely too much force to deploy the blades

Killed lots deer with slick trick.short blood trails !going shoot wasp this year (just because if a good oputunty) the wasp are very accurate and sharp I doubt they will kill any better than tricks .both are wort shooting .only head I ever had a bad experience with was a rage 2_blade. It open premature ??hunt to many days each year to risk this again. Another head I've saw work amazing is a Montec 3 blade.hope thus helps

If you are shooting for distance I would use fixed blade. Like thunderheads or muzzy

Yes!! Massive blood trails. I switched to them 5 years ago and won't be shooting anything else anytime soon. I haven't had a deer go past 50 yards, most don't make it 30. They are tough too.

I generally want to get opinions from hunters who have experience with killing multiple deer with multiple broadheads.
You know, so they have an idea what they are talking about because they have a bunch of experience.

So first of all, I want to know how much experience they have with a broadhead or any tool for that matter in order to quantify the level of confidence i have in that particular area with that person responding.

So many times on these boards I have heard opinions from those anxious to answer who had little or no experience with the subject matter.

In other words, I want to hear answers from those who have the most experience I can find with the subjuect matter.

Those persons can generally give you the best answer.
