don't you love it when you vise a gun, look through the barrel at an object 25 yards or so away, then dial the scope in to what you believe the right set should be, and take it to the range, and your first shot is dead center, 2 inches high at 25 yards. sure made sighting in at 100 easy.

I don't think I have ever got one dead center before today. and I am high 8-12 inches most times too.

Sometimes the stars just align. I usually have trouble getting on paper even with a bore scope. I take a piece of poster paper to the range for my first try at 100yds. with any new setup. That 50 cent piece of poster paper can sure save shooting around in the dark. Good job!

I have come close bore sighting several rifles. I do a little
different. I never sight in at less than a 100 yards.

I have a Ruger M77 338 that I bore sited, took it to the range
and it put the first 5 rounds dead center exactly 3 inches high, in 5/8" group at 100, exactly where I wanted it. That was 18 years ago and it still shoots to the same spot to this day.

This is a 6mm 243 at 3000 fps scope 2 inches over the bore sighted in at 25 yards . Program shows 4,25 inches high at 100 yards

Easy fix is , since the scope is 2 inches above the bore , seperate the bore and barrel by 1/2 . ie bore site at 1 inch low showing on the scope instead of dead on . It will 1/2 every thing and you should be about 2 inches high instead of 4. It works everytime , I use this method when I can't get outside to my 100 or 200 ranges. I use a small dot on the wall in my living room , bore site about 1 inch under the scope height and it will be on paper every time.

I do triple check my bore site before pulling the trigger. I set up the rig and remove bolt , look down tube and center target, Without moving the rifle I adjust vertical and then horizontal.
Now I take everything apart and do this in reverse, I look through the scope and then step back to look through the barrel . The barrel should be on target .
If it looks good I take it down and set up looking down the barrel and check one more time with the scope .
If it looks good this time it will be on paper and the smaller bores 25 and under will just about be in 2.5 inches sometimes closer the first shot.
To get dead on I shoot 1 round the very best I can squeeze off . Then set the rig up in the rest on a firm bag or on a bipod in a firm bag . Then put the scope on the spot and move it with adjusters to the bullet hole.
Remember U are adjusting the scope to the barrel . The barrel is solid and does not move . We adjust the scope to where the barrel throws the bullets.

I have ran into barrels that don't look where they shoot. I mostly think this is a crooked barrel or some other oddity.

them big redfield targets are easy first shot,,assuming everything is in working order..

Agreed

Even easier if you place a 3-4" orange square over the center and placed at distance for bore sighting or a quick re-check.
