I have a 54 cal sidelock that I love to hunt with, but there is a catch way down near the bottom that makes my cleaning patch and jag hang up and stick. Probably a little bit of corrosion down there.

Is there a attachment that could file away that catch? Like, maybe, a bore file? What would it be called? I've done all sorts of searches on the web, but to no avail.

Any help is appreciated!

No such tool. There can be a number of reasons you're hanging up your patch.....It takes more than a little bit of corrosion to hang patches. You might try a little steel wool on your jag and some penetrating oil. this might smooth it up a bit.

Otherwise, The only reliable way to address the problem is to unbreech the barrel and take a look.

How do you take the breech out of a sidelock?
