Where is the best place to purchase a new boat motor, about 20 to 30 hp. Any advice on brand will help. Thanks

Don't know where to tell you to buy but it is hard to beat a 4-stroke Yamaha.

Nothing wrong with a Mercury at all but I opted with the Yamaha just because of the reports I got from people that already had them. I will buy another one if I ever buy another motor.

I will have to look when I get home if you are interested but I am about 90% sure I bought mine on http://www.boats.net

They are located in Florida and you will have to pay shipping from there to a dealer in your area because "Yamaha requires Boats.net to ship Yamaha outboards to an authorized dealer's location to complete a proper pre-delivery inspection and installation"
Shipping to Union City TN was $140.00 and then the dealer charged me $150.00 to put it on my boat.

I approached the dealer and asked him if he would mount it for me and he said well I would rather sell you that motor.
I told him what I had to pay and he said yeah well then you gotta pay shipping.
I told him what shipping was to his store and he said there is no way I can touch that.
I said, exactly. I try to do local at all times possible but the difference in cost was scaring the crap out of a thousand dollars.

They had told me mine would not have a prop on it and I told the dealer I would pay him to put it on and buy the prop from him.
It arrived with a prop though.
To his credit, I would have never known it had a prop when he got it but he told me it had one.

Just a thought for ya.

Buy from the guy that can & will fix it.

x2 It may cost you a few extra dollars to do so, but it will end up being worth it when something breaks (and it will) and you can't get it fixed as quickly and get back in the game. Dealers tend to reward some loyalty by moving your on up the line to get something fixed asap if you are one of their customers. If you aren't, you go to the end of the line behind folks that did buy from them.
