As a long time user of real black powder I've sometimes feel that it gets a bad rap when it comes to the safety aspects of this powder. In all my years I have never witnessed an accident in regards to an errant explosion of this propellent. Heard of one powder horn and one can going up but without injury. Both were as a result of the handlers being just plan careless( shooting flintlocks over exposed powder).
A spark might set it off but it has to be a "hot" spark. Check out this experiment with black powder and static electricity.
