i have changed my outlook on him now. i used to think he was a smart alleck but when my uncle died a week ago he sent flowers and a bass to put on his grave and wrote a nice personal letter. they were pretty good friends and my uncle fished alot of tourny's against him.

sorry about your uncle, reckon he might be more than just a tv type sportsman,mike243

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Bill Dance was my childhood hero. I guess because he was the first "outdoorsman" I ever saw on tv.
Always wanted to meet him.

An awful lot of people don't like him due to jealousy and the fact he don't change numbers on his boat every year... I agree that must make him the devil himself. :D

I don't hate the man, I just think he is not the fishermen most think he is....

One question. Have you ever seen the man fish anything but a private pond? I haven't and that is why I don't care for the fellow. $50,000 bass boat in a private pond. Who couldn't catch a fish?

dance would be alright in my book if he didn't wear that same ole ugly cap all the time.

Bill is a friend of mine and we have fished together on several occasions. You couldn't ask for a guy with a better personality and a great sense of humor. I have seen him chit chat with guys mopping the floors in gas staions. He also put me on a 50lb cat in the mississippi river, that's not private is it. He has fished with me on other public waters as well. Great fisherman, great guy!

I can't really blame him. Imagine if he tried to film a show on public water. Every yahoo who floated by would see the cameras, say "Hey, that's BILL DANCE!" and he'd have a constant cluster of morons rubbernecking around him. Not exactly ideal fishing conditions, and a show about Bill Dance not catching anything with a crew of local yokels looking on wouldn't make for very good t.v.

He always seemed like a pretty good guy in my book.

At least he didn't get filmed "high fence hunting" a drugged deer in a small pen like Jimmy Houston. :)

I've had to deal with him and it wasn't fun. Had a bunch of folks mad at him once in a BASS or FLW tourney.

Roland Martin was not friendly either last winter at the Huntsville boat show.

This thread was started to talk about a nice gesture someone made to a family that has just lost a loved one.
It'd be nice if y'all could stick to the topic or go start your own if there is something else ya wanna talk about...

Once again, I'm sorry for your loss REM270....

I like Bill Dance. When I was going to law school at Memphis State I use to watch him on his weekly TV show. Back then I did not have the money or the time to go fishing. I loved to hunt and fish but had to postpone those activities until I finished graduate school. I did my fishing back then was vicariously through Bill Dance. His TV sponsor at the time was Blakemore Roadrunner Lures and they use to dynamite the pond in the commercial. Over the years I watched his family grow up. His daughter and son were on the show as little kids and his daughter went to Memphis State University and eventually married. His son runs the production and logistics for the TV show. I met Bills son in Florida after they finished a season of shooting shows in Florida and they were on their way home they had vehicle problems and they stopped at my Chevrolet dealership for repairs. Had a good visit and later received an autographed Tennessee hat in the mail which still hangs in my office. The Dance family is a very nice family and I have to give Bill a lot of credit for surviving on TV as long as he has. He may act like he is full of himself on TV, but he is a real nice guy.

Sorry about your Uncle.

I should add that I am very sorry as well for Rem270's loss.

I didn't see talking about Bill Dance in a thread titled "Bill Dance" as being off topic though.

Wasn't talking about the ones who mentioned their Bill stories. Most of them said they were sorry about his uncle and then went in to their stories about him. I just thought your comment about Jimmy Houston had nothing to do with the thread

Roland is a snob, his boy is worse, most of the rest are very nice guys if you dont catch them at a bad time...Yes even Mike Iaconneli, is a real nice guy in person...I know tons of tehm very well, and they are just normal guys livin somewaht of a dream, and pressed for time more than any other sports stars, that is why they are a little agrrivative sometimes
