Thinking about doing some hog hunting in Alabama this year on some public land. During small game season you can use rimfire calibers to take hogs. I already have a 22 mag but have always wanted a 17.

I always traveled to Crossville every year several times for a shot at taking out some hogs but this year no landowner up there wants to mess with the new laws and permits, its even worse when you live 100 miles away so I guess I am going to boost the AL economy a little and go down there.

Well, you will have to be close. I sincerely doubt that is strong enough medicine. I rolled them over in California from Catalina Island to Camp Roberts east of Paso Robles and inland to Coalingua. I used 243, 06, and 300 WM. After I saw one the size of a hereford cow, I carried the 300 exclusively. I don't think the meat is worth eating, just doing predator control and testing handloads. CA is overrun and remember, wild pigs were responsible for the spinach salmonella outbreak in central CA just a few years back. Texas and FL are overrun-find a farmer near some woods and volunteer to cut his ag losses by killing every last pig you see. I shot one so small it wouldn't make a ham sandwich and one so large I couldn't roll it over by myself. Carry big medicine.
