Any thoughts on best scope/size for 270 or 7mm for shots up to 300 yds? Illuminated reticule or not?

I like and prefer VX-III's. Something about good quality optics made in the US that makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I own and like the same VX-III Leupold scope. It works well for my hunting.
After hearing so much about the Zeiss Conquest, I am going to take a look at it.

I don't mind, and expect to pay some real cash for quality optics.
It's not so much about the money,as it is having a great scope.

If your hunting will be improved with a 2K scope, then spend the money. It's worth it when you need it.

If you do a search on the comparisons you will find that people who own the leupold say luepold and the people who own the conquest say conquest. People who own both say conquest. They say the clarity and light gathering ability of the conquest beats the leupold. I don't own either. I own a nikon and two sightrons. My choice is always based on what I have in my wallet and whats on sale for a really good price. My god, I sound like a woman.

Im happy with my VX-III, and I know it is a very good scope.
It gathers light well.

However, I also hear the same good things about the conquest.
Enought that I am going to buy one.

I think Nikon makes great products. Not bashing them. But the Omega is on their low end,and not a high end scope. I am dissapointed with the optics on mine.

You can't judge a monarch gold by using an omega or prostaff just like you can't judge a vxIII by using a vxI or riflemen. I had a Nikon Buckmaster which I got rid of and got a Nikon Gold. There is a world of difference. I probably would have gotten a Zeiss but it does not come in 2.5-10 power which is really what I was looking for at the time. I was not interested in a 3-9 or a 3.5-10. Maybe next time.

What is improved or better with it then the Leupold?
I like my Leupold a lot.

Zeiss has superior glass, superior MOA adjustments, etched reticles, and constant eye relief throughout the power range are some better features that the Conquest has.

The downsides to the Conquest are weight (they are slightly heavier) and some people do not like the larger ocular.

You have to decide what makes a scope better for your particular needs. Zeiss Conquest has etched reticles and great glass, but they're heavy. Leupold is lighter in weight, better eye box, and have those handy Alumina filters and caps. Bushnell Elite 4200 has glass on par with the Conquest and Rainguard, but once again is heavy. The ocular bell on the Zeiss can interfere with a bolt action if mounted too low. There is no "best" scope for all rifles and conditions. I personally value hydrophobic lens coatings and light weight with great low light ability. I hunt in the mountains in any weather. The worse the weather the better for me. I'm leaning towards the new Elite 4200 1.25-4x24 with illuminated #4 reticle or the VXIII 1.75-6x32 with Alumina raincoat lens covers. Until they make a Leupold scope with Zeiss lenses and Bushnell Rainguard it's all a compromise.

You need to also read up on Meopta Meostar scopes. I have two of the 3X12 56mm and they are incredible. They make and supply a lot of glass to Swarovski.
If you live in middle TN, you can come to Murfreesboro and check mine out.

If you buy a low end scope of any mfg, you will not get good glass. It's not only a brand question.

Decide on your max budget amount, and compare dollar to dollar.

My scope budget is 800.
If I spend more, I don't get more scope.
Not for my hunting.
