Im on the cheap end of the spectrum. I have a Shakespeare Ugly Stick Lite Pro.
It worked excellent for me and my wife when we floated the Piney River and caught a ton of Smallies.
Man, I miss those days.

No doubt about it. After fishing in that river for almost thirty years we (our boys, wife and I) can say without a doubt that live crawdads are the ticket. Some claim that minnows are the next best. When it comes to artificial, we always had our best luck with this tried-and-true Rebel
Sometimes the ones with the bright orange belly would do better on some days for some reason. We have many pictures with our two sons with some smallies. Our oldest son caught an 18". Our neighbor at that time caught a 20" and her picture used to be posted up at the local general store for quite some time.
Happy Trails

I use a 6'6" Charlie Brewer Slider Rod. Medium light action

Also use their 4'9" for dock shooting and all around jig casting.

As far as a long rod, I just use the 10' BnM Bucks Graphite jig pole.
