This happened yesterday on Old Hickory. This man's life will probably never be the same.
Hit something in the water and the motor flipped into the boat.Fall out and no kill switch hooked to anything?
It's a bad situation for sure.
Cody has suffered a bad fracture of L-1 vertebrae. They will be fusing it today. They have also decided to repair his jaw today .We are asking for no visitors at this time. They think he may move to a room in 5 to 7 days . We will update you daily. Also we have not set up or approved any go fund me accounts for Cody they are bogus. We can't thank all of you enough for your concern ,love and prayers.
I just saw an ad for that yesterday. It's a great idea, but I think I can buy a rigging strap and make it connect to my jackplate for less than 50 bucks. $280 for a Leash to fit my motor is a little steep. I guess when we spend thousands on electronics we could easily justify the cost though.Definitely going to look at putting The Leash on my boat now.
I think someone should be able to create and sell a more affordable version of something that should work. Something so simple that can save your life shouldn't be so expensive.I just saw an ad for that yesterday. Someone will (China), but this should probably be standard with the purchase of a new boat.I think someone should be able to create and sell a more affordable version of something that should work. Something so simple that can save your life shouldn't be so expensive.
I was just looking at them. It looks like they are made for the big outboards. I can't seem to find it for a 75hp. Don't know that it really needs one but wouldn't mind the extra piece of mind.I just saw an ad for that yesterday. This same thing happened years ago on KY lake. A guy went through the old 68-80 bridge pilons when the water was just above the supports that went from one to the other(obviously a bad design). Motor ended up in the boat with him and killed him.Wow! I never heard of anything like that before. That thought never crossed my mind.
Looking at the pic, the transom was completely wrecked. Isn't that what those outboard leashes attach to? I'm not saying it wouldn't help but I don't see how a couple eye bolts would keep a big outboard out of the boatI just saw an ad for that yesterday. I've seen pictures of outboards on the back deck but never anything this bad.Wow! I never heard of anything like that before. That thought never crossed my mind.
I would assume it takes a lot of speed to do that, but if it gives you peace of mind, why not.I was just looking at them. It looks like they are made for the big outboards. I can't seem to find it for a 75hp. Don't know that it really needs one but wouldn't mind the extra piece of mind.
Never heard about that. Terrible. This same thing happened years ago on KY lake. A guy went through the old 68-80 bridge pilons when the water was just above the supports that went from one to the other(obviously a bad design). Motor ended up in the boat with him and killed him.
I know you've seen the standing timber at the lakes I fish. Many times I've seen trees broken off just barely under the surface. That's my biggest concern.was this from a floating log? With electronics now days, surely he didn't run shallow and hit a stump
happened in big bottoms too. that guy was running about 50 and hit some stumps. dude was very lucky, hit the passenger side. This same thing happened years ago on KY lake. It actually just happened to another guy but he avoided getting hit with his motor. It was up on the back deck with him. Thats where i first saw the mention of the leash. It must be more common than we think to have a product dedicated to it.That's definitely a freak accident! Prayers sent for Cody!!
It attaches to the side of the motor mount. In the picture above it wouldve prevented the motor from flipping into the boat. It attaches to the black part thats still attached to the jackplate/transomLooking at the pic, the transom was completely wrecked. Isn't that what those outboard leashes attach to?
