I don't have many details but there is one in atoka this weekend at Nancy Lane Park ( softball fields) I heard that 55 teams are cooking

Wow thats a pretty big one. Before I moved down I helped out on Fat Andy's Backyard BBQ team. We were just starting to come together when I moved. They had competitions in Wisconsin, but a big one might have 25 teams(other than the Sam's Club qualifier).
I never joined fully as a team member, cause I wouldn't commit to the fall competitions during bow season. I wonder if I should get my KCBS judging certification now.

Yea there are quite a few teams out there. I have some friends cooking in it but I'm not sure of how many teams. Memphis Barbecue Network is in charge of the event. Some of these have 30-I think the most I have seen at one was like 70+
I've been to a few that had 50+ but most range from 35-50. I'm a Kansas City Barbeque Society judge. I judged one saturday morning in somerville. I was a little disappointed in my overall plate but had a few good ribs, one good chicken, and one decent brisket and 5 really bad ones.
