Haven't bought one before and I have been given permission and the go ahead to get one. Time to buy is now it looks like with sales going on so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to spend $600 or less. Thank you!

I hunt with the Barnett Jackal. $270 ish and its 315 fps out of the box. Tack driver. By far IMO the best cross bow out there for the $. Ten points are very bulky and like carrying around an anchor! Killed many deer with mine.

Ten Points are revered as the best, by many, but I own a Barnett Wildcat C5. I have killed many deer with mine. Barnett makes some cheap CBs and some expensive ones. They are probably the largest retailer of CBs in the US and will have the largest selection.

For $600 you are probably find a mid range Barnett or a wicked ridge by Ten Point. See If you can find a sale look for a ghost or a vengeance from Barnett, or a higher end Ten Point on a deal.

I've got some for sale pm me for details

TenPoint all the way. Sold both brands for 4 years and had almost no problems whatsover with the TenPoints. Barnetts were the exact opposite. Always had problems. I would say TenPoint, Wicked Ridge, Exacalibur, even Carbon Express would be my options. Shoot them before you buy.

Don't shoot or own either but Ten point has a much better reputation with those who I know owning them!

no idea. but from everything i have heard, crossbows are loud and bulky by nature- so try to find a small, light quiet one

What you have heard is very correct. If the OP currently owns a bow, then a better choice would be to use a draw-loc with the bowit makes a bow shoot like crossbow without all of the disadvantages that come with the crossbow. If not, a good used bow with the draw-loc added would be the better option for the same money as the OP is looking to spend.

I also shoot a barnett jackal,, only problem I have had with it was when I shot it one day and forgot to take one side of the cocking rope off the string... man that left a mark...

I shoot a Parker Tornado. Whatever you decide on get a cocking rope or some other type of assist. I bought the Tornado because at the time Parker had a lifetime warranty on the limbs. They have since rescinded that. Warranty is important. I have been very happy with the Parker and this year It's getting a new string.

The jackal that I use is just over 6 pounds I believe and with some limb savers added it is quiet enough that I have shot deer out to 55 yards with it. Im very happy with it.

Barnett has been good for me for a bunch of years, rather a bang than a twang though :)

I was going to buy a 10 point until I heard how they did Horton owners so I bought a Barnett Vengeance (reverse draw) and that boy is BAD to the BONE!! I mean its sick at 60 yards, the arrow is still smoking by!! Still working on 80 yards!!

Ive owned 2 a parker enforcer 160 was my first no problems with it sold it and bought the barnett ghost 385. Love it awesome cross bow I would recomend with either buy a reputable scope and not use the crossbow brand.

You target shooting at 60 and 80 yards, or is that how far your shooting at live animals?
