I'm just getting into archery. I was wondering what you all use arrow-wise when target practicing, hunting, etc. There's a boatload of info online about the subject, and navigating it has been overwhelming to say the least. Anyone have any recommendations or resources I should check out?

Here is a no bs answer to your question. Arrows come in basically 3 different straightness tolerances - .006, .003, and .001 with .001 being the most expensive. Starting out the least expensive. 006 will work just fine. You will lose some and break some so there is no need to waste money. Also forget those with weight forward technology, aluminum core with carbon outside, micro diameter, fancy this or that cause you don't that extra expense. Those are specialized arrows designed to penetrate larger and tougher animals than Tennessee whitetail, hunting out west with 25mph plus winds, and extreme distances. They are not what a bigger needs nor really a seasoned archer most chose those based upon personal preference and marketing hype unless you just really want to spend $150 plus a dozen. All you need is arrows with a .006 straightness in something like the Gold Tip Hunter. Victory V Force Sport, or similar from Easton and others. Don't need nothing fancy no specialized on the fletchings either, a standard 2" blazer or similar will work just fine. Even 3" or 4" feathers will work. Most important thing you need is to get the correct spine. Plenty of calculators out there to help you with this including charts from all the major manufacturers. If you find that you could use 2 different spines go with the stiffest. You should be able to get into a dozen quality arrows for a decent price. Keep it simple, cost reasonable, a pick some you can easily find. As you progress you will be able to determine what you do and don't want or need and is the added cost is really worth it. After over 30 years of shooting and trying and wasting money I shoot Gold Tip Hunter XTs and there ain't nothing a $200 a dozen weight forward, hybrid, infused, micro diameter, with specialized fletching will do for me that the GTs won't do also.

I'll add add this, or at least it works for me. I practice with the same arrows I plan on hunting with. I may hold out several specifically just for hunting but they're all the same arrow (length, spine, brand, etc.). I also practice with the same broad heads I plan on hunting with. Those I practice with have to fly exactly the same as those I hunt with but again you can hold out several specifically for hunting arrows. It's possible to find different heads for practicing and hunting that fly the same which limit the wear and tear on your hunting arrows. My hunting broad heads are mechanicals and they fly the same as the field tips I practice with.
