The doe I killed Friday morning sure had some active tarsal glands. They were ripe! Closest thing to rut activity I've seen

My buddy had a young buck chasing a doe yesterday morning and I didn't think much of it, but he had a mature buck pushing does around yesterday afternoon.

Seen a couple of scrapes forming and one 2.5 year old by himself cruising .

Had smaller bucks running does all morning around me then I killed a decent 8 pt at 10 o'clock he was rubbing trees making scrapes sparring and pushing does hard for over an hr.. the cold weather had them ready lol

I seldom find many rubs at Ames which is surprising under our buck management program. I do find scrapes and have started finding a few already. Rutting activity is staggered across the state but some bucks will start pestering does a month in advance. In SW Tn we won't see any potentially serious rutting action any earlier than the 3rd week of November. There are exceptions to the rule. I don't know how to describe the scrapes I find this early. They aren't breeding scrapes at least yet. They're more like a hormonal surge action by bucks wandering through their areas particularly from feeding to bedding areas. They may even serve as introductory sites for bucks that have already shifted into these areas from their summer ranges. Anyway, fun to find.

The one I killed this morning was ripe too.

Also noticed some of the mama does on my land are showing up on trail cam pics without their little ones, so it is probably getting ready to get ready to start. ;)

Had a young buck pushing two doe out in my plot on Saturday evening. Does still grouped up though. The last 7-10 days before the front had been really slow

Had 2 bucks sparing and chasing a few does Saturday. Figure one of them was going to go in early estrus (24 does)- maybe 28 days from now will be just right!
