I have read an article recently where round clay balls had been found at a location and the speculation was that they were used to cook with....kinda like hot rocks. Are these made from clay?

Good lookin rocks....

ok stovepipe ball&socket joints makes sence as kinda looks like them. i have several such balls rangeing from quater size up 2 baseball size. few yrs back i found a deer carcus that was undisturbed whole skeleton was there an inside ribcage i found a golf ball size one. so must be a kidney stone or gallstone.so game stones yes but i had a brain fart one nite as 2 what the small ones were used for. gonna wait see if someone else has same ideal as 2 there use.

Used for cooking Woodland period. Placed in a fire they would get hot and then be place into pots to cook with out having to place the pot over the fire. Also heard ideas that they would heat them and then place under bedding to provide heat. Gamestones are usually made of polished stone and almost perfectly round

Not an expert by any means but I would tend to agree with you phildidit. I have seen game stones of differing sizes made of clay and various other stone materials but they have all been "round" to the point of being called "perfectly round" and they have always been polished. It is generally accepted that the purpose of a game stone was to roll it over the ground and have a thrown spear, arrow or whatever land in close proximity to it at some point along its path. Kinda like leading a bird with your shotgun.

Does not mean that these are unfinished I guess. Gotta start somewhere! Maybe a few more photos and some approximate dimensions/weight to get a better idea of their size would be helpful?
